I have SOMETHING to say!

Welcome to “I have SOMETHING to say,” where subject matter experts are unafraid and unapologetic about sharing their perspectives regarding issues that impact our lives. They speak up because they give a shit. If you’re tired of canned answers and want to FINALLY hear real people cut through the B.S. and talk about real issues, this podcast is for you.

I’ve learned that the texture of relationships change with time. It’s impossible for it not to happen, because life happens. Sometimes it’s painful and sometimes it’s wonderful depending on the circumstances and people involved. In this episode of I HAVE SOMETHING TO SAY I talk with my brother Zaid Haiman about how he ended a 20+ year marriage, jointly, respectfully, and lovingly, with little to no impact on their son. A few months ago, Zaid called me to tell me “something” – he and his wife were separating. My knee-jerk reaction was “Oh, no!”, I didn’t see THIS coming, and I LOVE my sister-in-law. He stopped me dead in my tracks and said, “Why are you sad? We’re OK.” What followed was a candid conversation with him about self-reflection, life, love, and commitment to the people you care about even if the texture of the relationship has changed. I was also schooled by my kid brother on how to navigate difficult conversations by first taking a close look at who you are and finding the right words to articulate what you are feeling without hurting others. Thanks for the lesson, papa!
