I have SOMETHING to say!

Welcome to “I have SOMETHING to say,” where subject matter experts are unafraid and unapologetic about sharing their perspectives regarding issues that impact our lives. They speak up because they give a shit. If you’re tired of canned answers and want to FINALLY hear real people cut through the B.S. and talk about real issues, this podcast is for you.

A year ago, we spoke with High School English Language Arts teacher Manny Hernández about the impact of the club he created named “Coming to America” designed to welcome and support new students enrolled at Osceola High that are English Language Learners.  In this episode of I HAVE SOMETHING TO SAY, we catch up with Manny and two of his former students, Dayivet Vélez Zayas and Hayla Cordovi, who three years ago wrote essays for a book named after the club along with other high school classmates. In the book, they all shared the angst of leaving their homeland and their hope for a new beginning here in the USA. After graduating high school, both of these young, smart and talented Latinas decided to pursue degrees in universities in Spain and Puerto Rico (Yes! We went International!). They represent the stories of people who migrate on a quest to forge a promising future for themselves and their families, wherever they go. And they are grateful to mentors like Mr. Hernández who guided them and believed in them.
